Anonymous - I hope that everyone that reads this post stays the hell away from the knickerbocker.
The building is always dirty, always smelly, the ceiling in many of the fifth floor apartments are coming down, and water POURS into those apartments, which then goes through the floor and pours through the ceiling of the next floor apartment. They have been working on the back of the building now for well over five years, and yes it is still not finished. The apartments are TINY and I do mean TINY. Their studio's are god awful small, and everyone can hear anything you do. Don't plan on bringing a date home to screw, because the whole building will be talking about your sex life for the next three weeks. There is ABSOLUTELY NO HEAT during the winter. They always come up with lame excuses about how they are working to fix it, or it is going to be turned on soon, or "oh the boiler broke" and we are fixing it. They hire inept workers as their staff, usually their staff workers turn out being their lobby rats, whom they pitty.. and then publicly denounce and ridicule them for the remainder of their tenancy. I was a tenant there, and I am speaking honestly from past experience. Their dogs are always dirty , they always smell, and erastus is always farting up the place. They do not keep their animals contained so the smelly dirty things run up and jump on you the moment you enter the door. I believe Charles must have some kind of contact with the city because otherwise for sure the building would have been torn down by now. If the people from code enforcement from the city of albany took a little tour of that place they would for sure be calling the health department to quarantine that building. Their elevator is the tiniest thing you will ever ride in, I hope you dont have large pieces of furniture, because you will be taking that up several flights of stairs. Also you have to love sharing an elevator that tiny with other people.. especially the drunks that live in that building. As for maintenance Walt is their guy, and he is useless. He will yell at you for bringing up an issue, and intimidate you, to the point you feel that leaving a complaint is not worth it. Not to mention that when he gets off his fat ass , he doesnt actually fix the problem, all he does it make it worse. Ask Charles if Walt was one of his lobby rats, and what kind of prior job experience he had before being hired........... That is just about the building in general... If you are looking for that highschool atmosphere then by all means go rent at the knickerbocker. Charles and Kim the slumlords must have been the fat kids in highschool that everyone teased, because they feel the need to demean everyone , and i do mean everyone in the building. They talk so much ---- its coming out of their ears. They are the most unprofessional landlords you will ever meet. They throw these big parties, and get tons of booze, they get drunk and act beyond stupid/mean/and cruel. They are even nastier when drunk. I have witnessed these parties, or shall we call it the mosh pit where the tenants are unruly and disgusting, and the landlord encourages it. If you are a quiet, or shy person, or even a person that just likes your privacy this is not the building for you, if you dont feel like sitting in the lobby for hours on end talking about everyone else and gossiping then you will surely become one of their targets, who they will make fun of as soon as you walk up the stairs or take the elevator. Charles will rent to anyone except for black people.. he has an issue with them. I believe there is about 1 or 2 people who are black that live there, just so that he can say he isn't a racist... you do the math ... 192 apartments - 2 black people... what does that tell you' Seriously I would not have spent the time to write all this if I truly didnt have a terrible experience at the knickerbocker. I am not writing this to have a little tit for tat with charles... I am not writing this because I was stiffed, or because of their childish banter, I am writing this to stop people from renting here.. it is just god awful, and I wouldn't want anyone to go through what I did. Seriously if you want to rent there, you should make more then one visit, and I would also suggest waiting until the start of winter when its cold outside, before you view an apartment, so you can see for yourself that there is no heat in the building. I live in a great apartment now, still in a great neighborhood, and I have no problems where I live currently, I couldn't say anything but great things about them. I will not be putting the year of occupancy, or my name as I reserve my right to remain anonymous, I don't want anymore childish crap from charles. Again I truly hope if you seriously consider renting at the knickerbocker that you look into it , because you will regret it if you dont.

Tania - I was looking to see what would be open around August/September.

Ciara - I am interested in a studio apartment as well as a 1 bedroom apartment. I would like to check out both spaces to make a decision based on that.
